FlexTime
Internal Best Practices
Gail Miller, HR
Representative, Office of Institutional Diversity
During Gail Miller’s
interview for employment to the H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center,
she was asked to describe her normal work habits. Her
future manager then suggested the possibility of a flexible work
arrangement to complement these habits.
Gail recalls, “I was describing my work habits, [then]
my manager introduced FWA as an option/benefit.”
Since Gail’s first day of work here at Moffitt, she has
participated in a flextime flexible work arrangement.
Instead of the usual 8:00am – 4:30pm, Gail is permitted
to work from 9:00am – 5:30pm.
This schedule allows Gail to perform during her most
productive hours.
She and her manager are both very satisfied with the outcome.
While Gail appreciates being able to come in at a later
time, Gail’s manager notices the consistency in productivity
and time management that is exhibited.
Gail is also able to realize a better work-life balance.
She states, “Now that my mother-in-law lives with my
husband and I, it gives me time to make sure her meals are
prepared for the day.”
Gail
recognizes the importance of her flexibility as well. Therefore, she is willing to come in earlier or leave later to
accommodate her professional responsibilities.
