Beth Hurd, Tax
Compliance Analyst, Finance
Beth Hurd has been with
Moffitt for over seven years and at one time held a position in
management. But
after having two children, she decided that she wanted a better
work-life balance.
Beth’s position as a manager could not accommodate the reduced
hours of which she was interested.
“I took a step backwards from a career perspective to
obtain the flexibility that I needed,” says Beth. She
moved into an open part-time position within her department.
Beth goes on to say, “I think it is important to
understand that you may have to give a little in order to get
what you need.”
Working Tuesday through Friday from 9:00am to 2:00pm gives Beth
the exact amount of flexibility that she needed.
She sees the transition as a “win-win” situation; her
department has a fully qualified individual for the part-time
position, and Beth is able to enjoy her enhanced work-life
balance.
When it comes to professional obligations, Beth states “with
advance notice, I can usually handle anything.”
Her supervisor makes her aware of any mandatory meetings
or education and keeps her informed in instances when Beth’s
attendance is not necessary.
This
flexible work arrangement has facilitated a happy and loyal
employee in continuing a career that may have otherwise been cut
short.
